Myth 1: Once a person suffers from a slip disc or spine problem, he/she is doomed for the rest of the life and can never live a normal life.
Reality: Most of the spine patients can recover fully from their disease and live
a near normal life as enjoyed by their peers
Myth 2: Spine operations are very dangerous as they require handling of the delicate spinal cord and nerves that can get damaged during operations and patient can become paralytic or even worse than the situation they are currently in.
Reality: Spine operations are definitely delicate but no more dangerous than any other type of operations these days. Modern Spine techniques have enhanced the safety of spine operations to the tune of 98-99%. Most of the routine spine operations for slip disc and spinal stenosis hardly have any chance of making a patient paralytic.
Myth 3: After a spine operation, patients can not stand again or need to be on prolonged bed rest.
Reality: This is far from truth. Most of patients are able to move freely after spine surgery. These days there is hardly any need of bed rest and most spine surgery patients are made to stand and walk either the same day or within one day of their operation.
